The final six novels were chosen from 149 titles published in the United Kingdom and/or Ireland between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024.

The International Booker Prize has announced its 2024 shortlist, which includes six books 'that intertwine the private and political in fundamentally creative ways'.

The International Booker 2024 shortlist includes six books: Not a River by Selva Almada, translated from Spanish by Annie McDermott; Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck, translated from German by Michael Hofmann; The Details by Ia Genberg, translated from Swedish by Kira Josefsson; Mater 2-10 by Hwang Sok-yong, translated from Korean by Sora Kim-Russell and Youngjae Josephine Bae; What I'd Rather Not Think About by Jente Posthuma, translated from Dutch by Sarah Timmer Harve

"Novels transport us to places we might never visit, connecting us with new sensations and memories," said Eleanor Wachtel, Chair of the International Booker Prize 2024 judging panel, in a statement.

"Our shortlist opens onto vast geographies of the mind, often showing lives lived against the backdrop of history or, more precisely, interweaving the intimate and the political in radically original ways."

The six shortlisted works were chosen by this year's judging panel, which was chaired by renowned writer and broadcaster Eleanor Wachtel. She is accompanied by award-winning poet Natalie Diaz, Booker Prize shortlisted novelist Romesh Gunesekera, ground-breaking visual artist William Kentridge, and writer, editor, and translator Aaron Robertson, according to the website.

The final six novels were chosen from 149 titles published in the United Kingdom and/or Ireland between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024. The £50,000 prize money is distributed equally: £25,000 for the author and £25,000 for the translator. There is also a £5,000 reward for each of the selected titles: £2,500 for the author and £2,500 for the translator (or split equally among multiple translators).

The ceremony for the International Booker Prize 2024 will begin on May 21 at 7 p.m. BST (11:30 p.m. IST).
